The parameter type "Custom" is missing from the list of parameter types that can be specified in a VuGen script

The "Select or Create Parameter" dialog enables the parameterisation of a variable in a VuGen script. Several parameter types may be specified in the "Parameter type:" field in this dialog. However by default when using VuGen the "Custom" parameter type is omitted from this list. This document details how to enable this parameter type.

When developing a script with VuGen, a parameter may be created to handle script values that change each time the script is replayed. When creating a parameter, the script is selected and replaced using right-click "Replace with a parameter". The "Select or Create Parameter" dialog will appear and a parameter name and type specified. The parameter type can be chosen from a list displayed in the "Parameter type:" field. While a parameter type of "Custom" is supported, it does not appear in the list in a default VuGen installation.

How can VuGen be configured to add the "Custom" parameter type to the parameter list?

Solution

The "Custom" parameter type is not "enabled" by default in a VuGen installation. To enable the "Custom" parameter type do the following:

  • Close VuGen and using "WordPad", edit the following file:

<LR_install>\dat\param.dat

  • In the section:

[ParameterTypes]

  • locate the line:

;Custom=CustomSection

  • Delete the semi-colon ";" character as follows:

Custom=CustomSection

  • Save the file and open VuGen.

The "Custom" parameter type will now be available in the parameter list.
